TERRY TALKS BREAK DOWN
Chelsea captain John Terry has confirmed that talks about extending his contract have broken down. Terry, 26, is understood to want to stay at the club for life but has only been offered a five year deal significantly below his demands of around £130,000 per week.
Terry currently has two years remaining on his contract but has publicly stated his desire to stay at the club into his mid-30's.
But Chelsea are reluctant to offer any player a nine-year contract and the two also have different ideas about the wage he will be on.
"Negotiations have broken down, like they do throughout contracts, but who knows when we are going to be speaking again," Terry confirmed.
"We've been in and the offer has been made but it has gone no further than that. I won't be me making the next move - no.
"I said to the club that I want to stay for life and it is as simple as that."
Terry will instead leave any discussions until a later stage as he focuses on helping Chelsea battle for a quadruple.
"I've got so many more important things on my mind," continued the centre back, who is also England skipper.
"It is more important for me to be on the pitch and making sure everyone is ready going into these games. That is my role as captain and Chelsea player."
There has been speculation that both Terry and fellow England international Frank Lampard are waiting to see if inspirational boss Jose Mourinho remains at Stamford Bridge beyond the summer, but the Barking-born stopper denies categorically that his future is linked to that of the outspoken Portuguese.
"The situation is retrievable and it is not linked to what Jose does - definitely not" he insisted. "He's been great for me and hopefully the club will do the right thing by him, myself and Frank Lampard - who is up for renewal.
"I've made it clear, Frank has and the manager has, that we all want to stay. We are a tight-knit family and we want to keep it that way for many years. If we can keep Frank and the manager, we can achieve great things at Chelsea over the years."
All three have been linked with moves to Barcelona and Real Madrid this summer.
