The 2024/2025 football season in Azerbaijan has officially concluded. Qarabağ, the champion of the Misli Premier League, played in the final match of the national cup. Our team faced Sabah in this decisive encounter.

Our head coach, Qurban Qurbanov, opted for the following starting lineup: 99. Mateusz Kochalski, 13. Bahlul Mustafazade, 44. Elvin Jafarguliyev, 27. Toral Bayramov, 90. Nariman Akhundzada, 10. Abdellah Zoubir (c), 7. Yassin Benzia, 8. Marko Janković, 9. Kady Borges, 2. Mateus Silva, 15. Leandro Andrade.

From the very beginning of the match held at the Mehdi Huseynzade Stadium in Sumgayit, our team took the initiative. Our players kept possession in the opponent’s half and sought scoring opportunities. The opposing team, crowding their defense, tried to launch fast counterattacks once they regained the ball. Thanks to solid defensive efforts from both sides, there were few dangerous chances near the goals.

Sabah opened the scoring in the 36th minute with a penalty. Shortly after, our team earned a penalty as well, but Toral Bayramov’s shot was saved by the goalkeeper. Nevertheless, we managed to equalize just before the break, as Kady Borges finished off a well-executed team move.

In the 57th minute, Sabah was awarded another penalty. This time, our goalkeeper Mateusz Kochalski made an excellent save. Qarabağ maintained dominance in the second half and finally capitalized in the 68th minute when a cross from Elvin Jafarguliyev forced an own goal by a Sabah defender.

However, the nominal visitors equalized again in the 90+5th minute, pushing the game into extra time. During the added 30 minutes, both teams traded attacks. Ultimately, Sabah scored in the 120th minute to secure a 3–2 victory and claim the cup.
