CL Wrap: Milan Through After Five-Goal Thriller

Milan booked their place in the second round of the Champions League after a 3-2 win over Schalke at the San Siro. Andrea Pirlo put the Rossoneri on 42 minutes but Christian Poulsen equalised soon after. There was a distinct Brazilian theme to the second-half as Kaka netted twice in the space of eight minutes to put Milan 3-1 up. Lincoln reduced the arrears but it was not enough for the German side who must settle for a place in the Uefa Cup. PSV Eindhoven were the other qualifiers from Group E after they defeated Fenerbahce 2-0 thanks to Philip Cocu and Jefferson Farfan. Rangers also qualified following their 1-1 draw with Inter at Ibrox. Adriano gave the Italians the lead but Peter Løvenkrands equalised after 38 minutes. Porto could only manage a 0-0 draw away to Artmedia Bratislava and go into the Uefa Cup. Liverpool finished top of Group G as they held Chelsea to a 0-0 draw at Stamford bridge. The group’s other game saw Anderlecht secure their first and only points with a 1-0 win away to Betis. Vincent Kompany got the goal, but Betis qualify for the Uefa Cup. Lyon had already secured top spot in Group F and they finished with a 2-1 win over Rosenborg at the Stade Gerland. Fred scored the game’s winning goal in the last minute after Karim Benzema had netted for Lyon and Daniel Braaten had scored for Rosenborg. Sergio Ramos put Real Madrid ahead in the other game against Olympiakos but the Greeks won through after goals from Erol Bulut and Rivaldo.
