Qarabağ await the draw
Qarabag, who have achieved a historic success in the UEFA Champions League, finished the League Phase in 22nd place. Our team collected 10 points in this round.
At home, Qarabag faced Copenhagen (2:0), Chelsea (2:2), Ajax (2:4) and Eintracht Frankfurt (3:2). Away from home, the team played against Benfica (3:2), Athletic Club (1:3), Napoli (0:2) and Liverpool (0:6). As a result, Qarabag secured a place among the 16 teams that will compete in the play-offs.
The play-off draw, involving the teams that finished between 9th and 24th places in the League Phase, will be held tomorrow. The draw ceremony will begin at 15:00 Baku time on January 30.
Qarabag have two possible opponents at this stage. The Azerbaijani champions will face one of the teams that finished in 11th–12th positions — either Paris Saint-Germain (France) or Newcastle United.
The first-leg matches will take place on February 17–18, with the return legs scheduled for February 24–25. Teams that finished lower in the league standings will host the first leg and play the return match away.
It is also worth noting that Qarabag’s potential opponents in the Round of 16 are already known. The winner of Qarabag’s play-off tie will face one of the teams that finished in 5th–6th places — either Barcelona or Chelsea — following the draw to be held on February 27.
