Azerbaijan turn to Sadygov(UEFA.COM)
Vagyf Sadygov has been appointed coach of Azerbaijan. The former PFC Neftchi coach replaces Brazilian Carlos Alberto Torres who stepped down following his side's 3-0 defeat by Poland on Saturday. Third spell It is Sadygov's third spell in charge of Azerbaijan. He was also coach of the national team from 1997 to 1999 as well as in 2002. Sadygov made his name as a player with Neftchi in the Eighties before going into coaching. His former clubs include FC Shafa and Neftchi as well as Iranian top-flight side Mashinsazi. 'Further development' In February 2004, Sadygov was appointed coach of the Azerbaijan Under-21 side, which took points off both England and Poland in the current qualifying campaign. "I was outside of Baku when I was told I had been chosen," the 47-year-old said. "Now I need time to evaluate the state of events at the national side and prepare a plan for further development." Winless Azerbaijan Azerbaijan are bottom of FIFA World Cup qualifying Group 6, having picked up just two points from their first seven matches. Sadygov's first competitive match in charge is away to Northern Ireland on 3 September.
